Brittney Griner  spent two weeks playing under Gene Auriemma as the U.S. Lions vs. The national team, during the course of their European training tour. Griner was the only college player selected. She averaged 12.8 points and 7.3 rebounds a game with the USA team in Europe. As of 2012, Griner was the only player still playing in college. The Olympic women’s basketball team finalists list. Including Grener, the average age on the finalists list was approximately 30 years, and Grener was still only 22 years old when the Olympics started. Griner decided that she would not participate in the Olympics. She said that she was not able to attend due to family illness and to her school schedule.
