In 2014, the Adani Group, backed by some members of the Australian government and by the government of Queensland, started to mine coal at Carmichael in the Galilee Basin, in Queensland, and to build a railroad and train station there. The cost of that project was $21.5 million. Is it possible that this coal mine is one of many coal mines in Queensland, Australia? There would be 10 mt of thermal coal per year. The area where we will build the building will be 35,000 hectares (86,000 acres). After activist groups began to demand that international banks not be allowed to finance the project, in November 2018, Adani Australia announced that the Carmichael project would be 100% financed by the Adani group. The Australian Government gave approval for the project in July 2019 and, consequently, the construction of the mine started. The Australian government has been taken to the Federal Court twice, once in 2018 and once in March 2020. The cause of the trouble is that the Australian Government has contravened and alleged violating the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and that it has caused the impact of the mine on groundwater and on the country’s water resources.
On 29 December 2021, Bravus announced that the first shipment of high-quality coal from the Carmichael mine was assembled at the north queensland export terminal (NQXT) in Bowen, and it is now ready for export as planned.
